Realised while processing these photos that today is PF's 7 month birthday! Will he still be around on his 8th month birthday...? He's not the only one in London though, Dave Morrison tweeted about a juvenile still being fed by the parents at Battersea this week. In any case, he's now the longest staying juvenile at CXH, I don't exactly remember when AK left but it was earlier.
Found him eating near Dad this morning, looking at Tom's crop he'd had a good breakfast already. Later on, doing my walk by the Thames I noticed Charlie had joined them from the East side and was now eating the prey. A nice family tableau.
As I was leaving Tom and PF I saw a group of 4 pigeons frolicking about, they seemed to be busy showing off their flight skills and I couldn't believe when 2 of them landed between Tom and PF then left, like daring them to come and chase them. I mean it's not like they couldn't see the Peregrines, it had to be deliberate. 5 minutes later I heard PF screaming, he was flying after the pigeons, he'd taken the bait. He didn't catch any.

PF might be 7 months old now, a young adult by Peregrines standards, but it looks like he's still a kid at heart When I thought I'd seen everything!

Look who was in the box this lunchtime! I was walking by, could see Tom and Charlie, but couldn't find PF. And for a good reason!
He'd been on the ledge for half an hour, eaten some prey from the cache. Tom arrived 5 minutes after PF, ate at the other end of the ledge for a while before picking up PF's remains while PF was watching him. Sharing in harmony

Amazing scenes today! I was pinged by Laurence mid morning that he was on his way so I grabbed bins and camera and joined him. At first we had Tom on a corner of the West Wing and PF on an upright on the other side. We watched them for a while then went looking for Charlie. We couldn't find her and I joked that maybe she was at the Wetlands while Laurence was here. So we went back to the West side and as we got closer Tom flew to the spot right above PF and started eating. Obviously PF started screaming at Dad, getting a serious case of 'Peregrine neck' looking up Tom's bum (only joking, thankfully for them, their neck is more flexible than ours and they're unlikely to get this problem well known of Peregrine watchers). After Tom had finished his meal he feaked along the edge of the top for quite a long time, picking up lose feathers on the way which meant more feaking. A bit careless. We were talking of leaving when Laurence noticed that both birds seemed to be fixing their gaze to something in the distance and within a minute PF was off, followed shortly by Tom. Thankfully PF flew straight along the road so I could follow him the whole time for once and I soon notice that another bird, carrying prey, was flying our way: Charlie coming from Barnes! But the most extraordinary thing is that when PF joined her she did a food pass with him! In December! He's 8 months old in 10 days! PF lost height and I lost him for a while. When I saw 2 Peregrines flying towards us, neither with prey, I though PF had lost it, but it was Charlie followed by Tom and they landed on the top. Shortly followed by PF, still with the pigeon in his talons, he landed on the 9th floor railing and quickly started eating. After a few minutes he dropped down in the footwell and disappeared from sight and we left.
The resident stopping to tell us that she enjoys hearing and seeing them and knowing they're here was the icing on the cake .

This may be the last photo I have taken of PF at the hospital...
Time will tell but this was in the middle of a mobbing by Tom around 10:30 this morning. Tom then chased him off. A clip of the mobbing will follow, I didn't see the chase afterwards as houses were in the way.

It took a lot of hard work in unpleasant conditions, the old nest box was totally rotten and took a while to come out, but the new nest box is now in place, with a new camera in. As you can see, the new box is bigger than the old one. A new ledge camera should be installed on Wednesday, as well as a new server. We saw very little of Tom or Charlie, they were probably (wisely) sheltering from the rain on the West Wing.

I was quite surprised to see Tom being mobbed by 2 Crows while we were doing the Big Garden Birdwatch in the cemetery earlier and not retaliating...
