Norwich Peregrines

The two surviving wild young Peregrines from Norwich are now happily settled at the International Centre for Birds of Prey.
Nigel Middleton brought the first one over last week, when two were still alive on the nest ledge at Norwich. She had a wing injury and was a little thin, this was highlighted by the fact that she grabbed a whole quail and ate the lot, feet and all, by the following morning. The third youngster arrived two days later having been knocked out of the air, and luckily survived, with her came the last chick who had sadly not survived the aggression of the new female peregrine called GA, who once she had disposed of all four of the young is now happily claiming the nest site.
The two females here were taken over for a thorough check up by Neil Forbes of Vets Now at Swindon. Both are on antibiotics as they showed signs of anaemia and rumbling infection, neither of which was surprising considering the stress they had been under.
We moved them out into an aviary this morning and they are looking great. They will stay here until a release aviary is ready in Norfolk, well away from their nest site, by which time they will be much more confident and ready to start their release back to the wild. We also have a young male peregrine who fledged too early who will join them.
We are delighted to be involved with the Peregrines in Norfolk.
