I believe this is the first bird that we have identified that was relocated. We hope she settles in to have a good season here in San Jose. The following information is from a team members contact at USDA APHIS Wildlife Services, El Cajon CA. 24/BA was captured 6/27/21 as an AHY (after hatch year, 2020) female at South San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge for the purpose of mitigating predation impacts to endangered California least tern colonies in and around the Refuge. She was banded on that same date and later relocated to Pit River Powerhouse Road #2 in Shasta County on 7/1/21. After some discussion amongst our group it has been decided that she will be given the name 'Shasta'. It's quite a feat that she has traveled and ended up in San Jose though falcons are well known to fly long distances. Both her and Sequoia are 2020 hatches so they could be a good pair/match for this upcoming nesting season. I hope you enjoy finally learning the history of this beautiful falcon!! schreef:

Sad news from San Jose:
Some may have noticed that Shasta seemed out of sorts on Sunday. After a long afternoon of sheltering in the nest box she began to show clear neurological symptoms (spasmodic movements and reduced coordination) and flew from the ledge after a few false starts. Luckily she was found Monday morning on E Santa Clara St and reported to SJ Animal Control. They transported her to the Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley later that morning. The clinicians there found her to be hypothermic and still exhibiting neurological symptoms. While the highly pathogenic avian influenza was an initial concern, she had injuries indicative if a serious collision and head trauma that could also explain her symptoms. For this reason they did not euthanize her and are attempting to get her stable with heat, pain medication, fluid, and rest. I'm expecting an update this morning and will add any new information to this thread.
I'm grateful that Shasta decided to visit the ledge so we could be alerted to her condition and have more information for the rehabbers yesterday. Hopefully she will pull through and be releasable. The time she will be spending in captivity almost definitely removes her as a breeder this season. We will see if Sequoia is able to secure a new mate or a new pair moves in. I know we are no strangers to peregrine pair upheavals at this nest and will get to learn a lot from this situation with a banded male. There is still ample time for a successful nest at this site.
