On Tuesday 13th June, we were notified by the vergers that one of the peregrine chicks was on the ground, close to the cathedral. Colin got there with a cat carrier and some leather gauntlets and - with the help of Jo the Verger - the grounded fledgling was put onto the flat roof of the choir - safely away from dogs, foxes etc.

This afternoon, I took a call from Jo saying that the bird was down again and sitting looking confused in the full sun (it's been mid to high 20s today). Again , using a cat carrier, a towel and some BBQ gauntlets, I caught the bird and took him (let's assume it's a him!) up to the bell chamber to cool down and de-stress. I put him out in the scrape (he took some persuading to leave the cat carrier!). This is on the same level as the nest box, but just around the corner (the nest box is inaccessible from inside the cathedral).

He's been there wandering about and flapping his wings ever since. He had a bit of a sleep and his mum and dad have popped in to feed him. It looks like he's going to take his time before he tries that flying stuff again. I'm sure he'll get the hang of it soon!
